EVENTS: Tim McNeal to Speak at Newhouse

Come to the next 'Leaders in Communications' lecture featuring Time McNeal, an ABC-Disney vice president who's scheduled to engage in a conversation with our own Professor Richard Dubin. McNeal runs training programs for writers and producers in Los Angeles. He formerly worked with Ari Emanuel, the agent upon whom the character Ari Gold in 'Entourage' is based. A reception will follow the event at which time you will have a chance to meet and talk to McNeal.

Osorio was the first female editor in chief of The Source magazine, which covers hip-hop music, culture and politics. She led the publication during some of its highest-selling issues, but later sued for sexual harassment and received a reported $15.5 million settlement. She is the author of “Straight from the Source: An Expose from the Former Editor in Chief of the Hip-Hop Bible” (VH1, 2008), in which she gives a behind-the-scenes look at her years at The Source.

Osorio is currently an editor-at-large for BET.com and a frequent on-air contributor to BET News. She was formerly the vice president of content for Global Grind, a leading hip-hop media company.

EVENTS: Larry Tye to speak at Newhouse

Tye will discuss Edward L. Bernays, one of the pioneers of the field of public relations, a man he has written a book about.

But Tye is also of interest because of a number of his other accomplishments. A former reporter at the Anniston Star in Alabama, the Louisville Courrier-Journal and the Boston Globe, he has won numerous prizes for his coverage of medicine, the environment, sports, government and
business.

In addition to the Bernays biography, he has written other books: Home Lands: Portraits of the New Jewish Diaspora and Rising from the Rails: Pullman Porters and the Making of the Black Middle Class. He has co-written (with Kitty Dukakis) Shock: The Healing Power of Electroconvulsive Therapy. His biography of Negro League baseball legend Satchel Paige is due out in June.
