Newhouse alum (Advertising) Mindy Stockfield will be speaking about her work at Disney and Hyperion and transforming the way we look at books. Hors d'oeuvres and a chance to network with Stockfield will immediately follow.

Stockfield is responsible for the overall marketing and promotion of Hyperion and Voice imprint titles. In addition, she oversees the ePublishing and digital media direction for Hyperion, which includes eBook management and driving new platform development on emerging technologies. She also manages partnership opportunities for Hyperion. Previously, Stockfield served as VP for the Disney Channel & Jetix Digital Media Group (now Disney XD) where she oversaw development efforts of applications for the Disney-ABC Television Group's kids channels and brands including
DisneyChannel.com, PlayhouseDisney.com, and RadioDisney.com.

Stockfield joined Disney in January 2006 from Cartoon Network, where she served as Senior Director, Marketing. During her eight years there, she oversaw marketing efforts related to the launch of numerous original series, spearheaded the creation of pro-social and multi-cultural marketing initiatives, and played an integral role in the original launch of
CartoonNetwork.com. Earlier in her career, she held positions at Disney Online and at Modem Media.

Trevor is the Brand Manager and Community Manager for BrandYourself.com, a startup company based in Syracuse that specializes in helping its users get high quality content that they control to the top of search engines. He is a 2011 grad of SU’s Bandier Program.

Bridget Lichtinger, Assistant Director, Newhouse CDC
In addition to assisting Newhouse students with everything from cover letters to internship searches, Bridget serves as the liaison between Newhouse alumni and the CDC. She plans special events including the CNY Communications Consortium, Career Day for freshmen and guest speakers.

Kelly Lux, Social Media Strategist, iSchool
Kelly provides guidance across the iSchool on how to best use social media to evolve relationships with employers, alumni, faculty, staff and students. She works to expand the public's awareness of the school and delivers content through a variety of media.

Dr. William Ward, Professor of Social Media, Newhouse
Dr. Ward, a.k.a DR4WARD, is the Social Media Professor at Newhouse. DR4WARD is known for providing useful content and consistently engaging with his followers and truly "getting it" when it comes to the best ways to use Twitter and other forms of social media.

Apple Updates iPods

Apple released the latest version of its popular iPhone on Tuesday, the iPhone 4S. Apple CEO Tim Cook announced updates to the iPod Nano and iPod Touch. Lower prices and feature and style upgrades will arrive just in time for the holiday shopping season.

The new Touch is Apple's most popular iPod and will now be available in black and white. It will also get a $30 price cut to $199 for 8GB of storage, $299 for 32 GB and $399 for 64GB. The Touch will run Apple's new iOS5 operating system, maintaining its status as an iPhone without a phone. It will ship October 12.

The Nano is receiving a different upgrade. For people who use the 1.5 inch screen as a clock, they will now have 16 clock faces to choose from. The Mickey Mouse watch is now available and Mickey's hands spin around to tell time. It's also lower in price, $129 for 8GB, $149 for 16GB and $49 for 2 GB.
