EVENT: From Newsprint to Network News: A Conversation with Jan Crawford Greenburg

ABC News correspondent Jan Crawford Greenburg will visit Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications on Wednesday, Sept. 23, as a guest of the Carnegie Legal Reporting Program. The event is free and open to the public.

Greenburg is based in Washington, D.C., where she covers the Supreme Court and provides legal analysis for all ABC News broadcasts. She is the author of “Supreme Conflict: The Inside Story of the Struggle for Control of the United States Supreme Court” (Penguin Press, 2007).

Prior to joining ABC, Greenburg was the national legal affairs reporter for the Chicago Tribune, where she covered the Supreme Court and national legal issues, including judicial appointments and confirmation battles. She won the Tribune’s top reporting award in 2001, as part of a team of reporters that covered the 2000 presidential election and the subsequent legal battles over the White House. She won the same award for a 13-part series on the South, a generation after the Civil Rights Movement, in 1996.

EVENT: Diversity at the Dinner Table

Sit down with an employer over dinner to discuss global trends and diversity issues in the workplace. With employers sponsoring individual tables, you have a chance to network, learn about an organization, and explore career opportunities. This year, WNBC has a table and has room for nine students to join them for dinner. Also, Hallmark has two tables and one is reserved for students in creative majors such as creative writing and graphic design. You can select seating arrangements of your choice; space is limited, so register now.

TO SIGN UP FOR DIVERSITY AT THE DINNER TABLE, FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS
1. Sign on to OrangeLink (https://syr.csm.symplicity.com/students) . If you do not have an OrangeLink account, please email careers@syr.edu OR call 315-443-9093.
2. Once signed into OrangeLink, select the EVENTS tab on the main screen.
3. On the Events page, select the INFORMATION SESSIONS tab. All sessions will be listed. Click on Info Session Type; select Diversity Business Summit Dinner.
4. To look at a company, click on that company’s session start date/time. (Note which majors, class standing and visa status the employer is looking for)
5. When you find the company that you’d like to sit with, click the RSVP button at the bottom of the page.
6. Select only one employer to sit with. Selecting more than one employer will cancel your dinner reservation with all employers.

WICI will be hosting its first event of the year with Dan Klamm, from the SU Career Center. Dan will outline some basics on resume writing, as well as other topics like cover letters and interviewing. Bring your questions and most importantly... your resume!
